Moisture over time will penetrate in the polymer, and weaken the mechanical properties from the start.

This is why it is crucial that all polymers, especially those winded as a filament, are protected by moisture in storage, and during printing. But moisture control is expensive.

A room dehumidifier won’t suffice.

Specialty built dehumidifiers must be used to remove all the moisture, and many 3d printing services avoid this crucial step to cut cost, at the expense of a stronger final part.

Here at FH3d we pre-dry our polymers in a controlled environment, and print from a heated storage box, so the production process is not hindered by humidity.

 

2 – Part strength:

 

3d printing polymers spread all across the mechanical spectrum, and most 3d printing services print in PLA or PETG, the lower tier of filaments. 

These do not yield particular mechanical properties under stress or even minor heat. If someone tells you differently, well, he has no real life experience. For context, PLA and PETG parts soften near melting point in a vehicle during summer…Do you want your part to be a soft mess at 100F?
